Prompt

A prompt is the instruction, question or material you give an AI model to get a response. It can be one line or a detailed brief covering the background, the task, the format you want and an example. Clearer prompts give more useful answers: stating the audience, the jurisdiction, what to leave out and what to do when information is missing all reduce rework. Many AI tools also add a system prompt, set by the vendor or your administrator, that shapes every answer. Firms often keep a shared prompt library, so staff reuse tested instructions and include no more client detail than the task needs.

Example

In an accounting firm

An accounting firm keeps a tested prompt for client emails: "Write a short email to a small-business client explaining their BAS result. Use plain English and stay under 150 words. Do not give advice beyond the figures provided. Ask me for any missing detail rather than guessing." Staff paste in the figures and review the draft before sending.

Secure by design. Set up correctly. Fully managed.
